Robotics and Rocketry club at PESIT
On November 19th 2005, PESIT finally launched its 'Robotics and Rocketry' club. [info]mrinal and I were present at the launch (also to be felicitated for our "achievements" in robotics). The launch itself was pretty interesting, with 3LER being programmed to press a button which would launch a model rocket. I had to build a prototype of 3LER in little more than a night, for this launch. The rocket platform was built by our juniors in close collaboration with us. Overall, it was good fun, and everything went smoothly. watch the video here.

Not so long ago when we were in college, I once presented a proposal to our management for the formation of a robotics club. I got but didn't go ahead with it at that time. I still don't understand the reasons, but it was perhaps because I loved my freedom, and with or without a club, we were still doing our stuff, and enjoying it like crazy. Perhaps it was also because we were too busy with COMRADE by that time.

However, after I passed out, I had been helping a few juniors with the design of robots. Now I am actively involved with this club, and we already have two important competitions lined up.The maze-solving robotics competition, MicroMouse at IIT Powai in January 2006, and India wing of RoboCon at Nirma Institute of Technology in March 2006. Both the events are something we always wanted to participate while in college, but couldn't because of various reasons.

I am now helping our current juniors design and build robots for the event. After a year at the "enterprise" world, this is heaven.

If anyone is interested to contribute/help/be-involved in the events, please barge in. This is as good as it gets :)

You look positively surprised in the video that the thing actually worked - following the rocket all the way through to ensure it didn't accidentally decide to heed gravity or something. :)

Anyway, good stuff - maybe programming (however extreme) could be relegated to a hobby?

Hehe, Ya, this whole rocket launch thing was just for fun. And, there was a great deal of uncertainity reg the success of the "mission" :p

BTW, what i haven't put up is the part of the video where we are being 'felicitated'. Mrinal had this *ultra* i-dunno-how-to-define look on his face.

Yeah, I have heard it is tough for you to get things up anyway.

Applause!

Newayz, put up the whole video somewhere!

Hey Dude!

I am not sure you know me, nor am I sure I know you. I am from PESIT too (E&C Batch - 2001 pass out) ... Since, I have dabbled in robotics for a while and to cut a long story short, I would very much love to contribute to this effort at PES. Can you leave me your contact details?

the removal of dot and @ sign is to stop bots from spamming my mail id.

I'm not sure if that works anymore; I would expect bots to be a lot smarter these days :)

hehe, ya. Even captchas are being cracked by bots nowadays.

However u can have some fun by confusing people like allen :p

Hey there JD,
i would definitely like to contribute, but all my contributions can only be online. Let me know if u need any info in the mechatronics field. Its gonna be my domain of work from january onwards. (specifically in the field of proximity sensors)
